This is an Archived Post that has been migrated over from our old Q&A System. The original posting dates have not been retained.

The reason for finding and joining this site was that I received a renewal notice for my house and contents insurance from Halifax this morning, and it has gone up yet again and is now over £500. After using Money-saving expert I got a quote from HomeProtect which is less than half of the Halifax quote, and that is including my loyal customer discount from Halifax.

Because my Halifax quote is for unlimited rebuild cost and unlimited contents, I have never needed to know the cost of rebuilding for insurance purposes ( although I am not sure I really need that amount of cover)

Can you please advise an approx rebuild cost for a BISF house in Hertfordshire?
Thank you

Hi Carole
It’s always good to hear our readers battering down insurance costs and we have heard of some pretty outrageous quotes in the past’

Rebuild costs are often significantly cheaper than the current market price of your property as values vary wildly around the country.

A good place to start though is by using a rebuild calculator specifically for homeowners looking to work out this very relevant cost as often people put down a figure that’s far too high which then goes on to increase the cost of your premiums.

Try using the BCIS (Building Cost Information Service) calculator HERE

You will see a link on the top right of the page that will take you to the building calculator, you will need to register but it only takes a few seconds to do and it’s free.

Also take a look at this handy page provided by HERE
