hi just purchased a bisf house got told would cost 19k to external insulate and render the house its a 3 bed semi, am I paying too much , or does anyone know any contractors and what they have quoted for the same type of house.
Hello Randy, welcome to the forums and congratulations on your purchase.
EWI (external wall insulation) can be a valuable addition to your home. It helps to make your home more energy efficient whilst at the same time, it can transform the external appearance too. However an estimate of £19K for an install appears to be very expensive. In fact, this is the highest quotation ( I presume it's a quote) that I have ever heard of.
Back in 2014/15, I organised a street wide project to insulate around 20 homes in the Midlands. At that time, we were quoted £8,500 per house. Of course, due to the number of properties involved, the quotation provided was very competitive, but even so, I had heard reports of some companies charging as little as £6000 whilst others charged up to £10k.
Moving forward to 2019, which is only 4-5 years ago, and even with taking inflation into account, I find £19k to be excessive.
My advice would be to obtain several more quotes if possible.
