During my years of research into the History of the BISF House, I occasionally come across references specific to Scotland, that some BISF Houses in this area were were built as Maisonettes.

In effect, the standard house was split into a separate upper and lower floor dwelling. This would enable four small families to be able to live in a standard pair of semi-detached houses, turning what would normally be 2 separate dwellings into 4.

The problem that I have encountered, is that despite finding the odd historical reference to this type of layout being present in Scotland, I have never been able to identify one single property that was actually split in this way.

So this is a shout out to all BISF Homeowners living in Scotland.

Do you have any memories, recollections or knowledge of  BISF House Maisonettes?

I would love to hear from anyone that has any information at all, as it would help to solve a long standing question of if they ever were built or occupied in this way at all.
