It’s also worth noting that there is an RSJ in the top of the wall that runs through the middle of the house and supports the steel floor beams which run from the front of the house to the back. You can see it in the photo Marc posted where it has been clad in some sort of wood or wood effect up against the ceiling. The other two stanchions are less problematic as one is right in the living room/hall/kitchen corner and the other one is up against the party wall, so typically they wouldn’t be left free standing like the one in the photo. I’m unclear whether both houses in the pair have a stanchion against the party wall or not, but suspect only one does. It is inside/behind the door frame against the party wall.

One of the stanchions enclosed in what looks to be cork, This stanchion is located in the wall close to the double doors which lead between the dining room and living room.

Hi Stuart
This has been discussed many times throughout the website but in short no the wall itself is not load bearing but there are two vertical steel stanchions that run up from the floor to the ceiling located inside that wall and these cannot be removed.

So yes you can remove the wall but you will be left with two steel columns that will need to be taken into consideration. Some people choose to clad them or blend them into a new design as in the image below.

Also take a look at the posts below, they should help you out but if you have any questions along the way just ask and we will do our best to help.
Remember to take so photographs if you do undertake the work as they are always useful for reference.
